Dan Ventura is a Professor in the Computer Science Department at Brigham Young University. Prior to joining the faculty at BYU, he was a member of the Information Sciences and Technology division of the Applied Research Laboratory and a member of the Graduate Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering at Penn State University. Dan has also spent time in industry as a Research Scientist with fonix corporation, working on the development of state-of-the-art technology for large vocabulary continuous speech recognition.

His research focuses on creating artificial intelligent systems that incorporate robustness, adaptation and creativity in their approaches to problem solving and incorporates neural models, machine learning techniques, and evolutionary computation.

DARCI recently entered her first art show and came away with a 2nd Place Prize in the Digital Art Category.

DARCI will be jurying a show at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday Nov. 5, 2012 as part of ACM C&C 2011.

The 2nd International Conference on Computational Creativity held in Mexico City, Mexico, April 27-29, 2011 was a huge success.

We have begun developing a system, called DARCI, that will (eventually) autonomously produce quality art that communicates intent. Right now, DARCI is learning to develop aesthetic and conceptual appreciation and recently acted as the sole juror of an art show in Gallery 303 in the Harris Fine Arts Center. The show ran March 19-31, with a closing reception held March 31. Check out the results online.
