Current Trends in Neural Networks : Theory and Applications

Theme and Scope

The fields of computational intelligence and natural computing seek to apply approaches inspired by natural processes for the solution of problems that are resistant to traditional methods. Both of these fields have become broad, with contributions from researchers in mathematics, physics, computer science, linguistics, neuroscience, biology, psychology, cognitive science and various engineering disciplines. When disparate disciplines pursue similar research agendas, it is often the case that too little cross fertilization of ideas occur. Thus, the International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Natural Computing, 2003 (CINC’03) seeks to foster the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas leading to significant advances in machine intelligence. In conjunction with the Joint Conference on Information Sciences, 2003 (JCIS’03), the conference provides a truly unique forum for presentation and collaboration across disciplines. The organizers seek high-quality original papers that contribute to this goal. All topics relating to computational intelligence and natural computing are welcome and new, unusual and hybrid approaches are particularly encouraged. Both theoretical (new algorithms, analyses, etc.) and applied (implementations, applications, etc.) papers are solicited. Areas from which papers are sought include but are not limited to:

Ant Colony Optimization   Computational Intelligence     Intelligent Systems Neural Networks
Artificial Immune Systems   Connectionism Knowledge Discovery           Particle Swarm Optimization
Artificial Life Data Mining Learning and Memory        Pattern Recognition
Associative Memory DNA Computing Machine Learning Probabilistic Reasoning
Biological Computing Evolutionary Computation Neurocognition Reinforcement Learning
Bioinformatics Feature Extraction Neurodynamics Support Vector Machines
Cognitive Science Intelligent Control Neurofuzzy Systems Swarm Intelligence

Paper Submission

Papers will be accepted based on peer review and should contain original, high quality work. Claims and results should be substantive enough to be further developed as journal quality work. All papers must be written in English. Papers shall not exceed 4 pages of 10-point font, double-column, single-spaced text, with figures and tables included. For the Sixth International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Natural Computing, send an electronic version (postscript or pdf format) of your submission to

Information Sciences Journal

All accepted papers will be included in a high-quality, bound conference proceedings published by the Association for Intelligent Machinery. Authors are encouraged to submit extended versions of their papers to the journal Information Sciences (Elsevier) (where they will be subject to further review). In addition, it is anticipated that one or more special issues of Information Sciences, targeted specifically for topics covered by this conference, will be published to include extended versions of the best papers appearing in Computational Intelligence and Natural Computing.

Special Sessions

Proposals for invited sessions are sought in all areas of computational intelligence and natural computing. Each invited session will have 4-6 speakers. All invited session proposals should include email and address of organizer(s), and a brief abstract of less than 250 words. Organizer(s) of invited sessions will be included in the organizing committee.

Send your submission before March 15th to Dan Ventura (ventura@cs.byu.edu) or Sanjoy Das (sdas@ksu.edu).
